Beethoven, Beethoven, on the wall ... who is the fairest of them all?

All of us have our favorite recordings of the iconic nine Beethoven symphonies.  We'd like to invite our readers to post a comment and share with us which particular vinyl recording(s) is/are the one(s) you wouldn't want to live without.  My personal first choice would be George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra, issued in the US on the Epic label and in the UK on the Columbia label, followed by Otto Klemperer with the Philharmonia on UK Columbia.  Both to this day remain reference recordings, even in the face of stiff modern day competition.

  1. My favorite recording goes to Bohm/VPO on the DG label.

    1. Geoffrey -- welcome back! Thanks for your vote! I recently started listening to Bohm/VPO, not on vinyl but as part of DG's recent Bohm The Symphonies CD box set release -- very nice indeed.
